Traumatic Childbirth: The Ever Widening Ripple Effect

This presentation will address the chronic long-term impact of a traumatic birth on women. First, it will highlight the essential components of what makes a birth traumatic. Next, the series of ripples from birth trauma are described from developing PTSD, to the anniversary of birth trauma, to the impact it has on breastfeeding, to subsequent childbirth following a previous birth trauma. The presentation will conclude on a positive note focusing on posttraumatic growth after a traumatic childbirth.
